The Best Sites and Places to Post Jobs

Ever since the age of the internet, the way candidates conduct their job searches has changed tremendously. The list of places and job sites to post your job is always growing. Finding the best places can be an exhaustive process. Even with a well-crafted job description, where you post your job opening can significantly impact your applicant flow.

Where Should I Post My Jobs?

There are three major categories for where you should be sharing your jobs. They are job search engines and job boards, social media, and local efforts. By utilizing these three sources effectively, you help build your talent magnet.

Use-Job-Search-Engines-to-Increase-Visibility

Job Search Engines and Job Boards

This first category is where the majority of candidates are looking today for their next job. Job search engines aggregate job posts from careers pages, job boards, and other job engines. Job boards, on the other hand, are a place where employers can post job openings. Since many job search engines also act as job boards, and to avoid confusion, we have decided to combine both categories.

Here are some of the most popular job search engines and job boards:

Indeed

Indeed is the largest job search engine in the world. It aggregates thousands of jobs online and also serves as the largest source of applicants in the US. Indeed also hosts a resume database for employers to search through.

Employers can create job listings on Indeed for free. You can also sponsor jobs for a fee to better your position on search results within Indeed.

Glassdoor

Glassdoor, which was recently acquired by Indeed, is most well-known for its employer reviews. While it serves as a strong hub for candidates to research a company, they also function as a powerful job search engine. According to a study by Silk Road, an HR software company, Glassdoor ranks third in the US for total applicants among the top five job boards (LinkedIn is #2 even as a social media platform).

How Much Does It Cost?

Glassdoor offers a free trial to employers to post their jobs. After the trial expires, you must opt-in to one of their paid plans to continue to post your jobs. Plans for posting job openings in non-premium spots start at $199/month. If you partner with an applicant tracking system (ATS) like CareerPlug, however, you can have your jobs posted at no additional cost on Glassdoor. These job listings will differ from posting directly with Glassdoor, though. They will only be visible on Glassdoor’s search results and through your company’s profile page. To be able to post your jobs for free, CareerPlug uses an XML feed to share your jobs (post your jobs) with job search engines and job boards. You could create your own XML feed, however, this could be difficult and time-consuming.

CareerBuilder

CareerBuilder is one of the oldest, most popular job boards today. They have been around since 1995. Although they have started to move into more services, many know them for their job board and their resume database. This is still one of the largest sources of job listings with thousands of job openings listed.

How Much Does It Cost?

Employers can post their job openings on CareerBuilder starting at $197/month. This also gives you access to their resume database. Similar to Glassdoor, however, you can post your jobs to CareerBuilder at no additional cost with an ATS or your own XML feed. These job listings would appear in CareerBuilder’s search results.

Syndicate Jobs with Applicant Tracking System

ZipRecruiter

ZipRecruiter, while not as big as some of the other job search engines listed above, is a strong source for finding candidates. The company works with over 1 million businesses and has delivered over 500 million completed applications.

Similar to Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter also offers a free trial to employers for posting their jobs. After the trial expires, the minimum cost to continue is $249/month. This also gives you access to their resume database and job alerts for when a candidate completes a job application. Like CareerBuilder and Glassdoor, you can find yourself on ZipRecruiter’s organic feed with an ATS at no additional cost.

Craigslist

Although Craigslist is not traditionally categorized in the job search engine/job board category, it is one of the best sites and places to post your jobs. Many local job seekers have usually heard of Craigslist making this job site a great place to increase job visibility.

Depending on which city’s Craigslist you post your jobs on, the price will differ. Most cities do offer free job listings, however, some cities do charge a fee to post your jobs.

Other Job Search Engines and Job Boards

While these are some of the biggest job search engines and job boards, there are plenty more places to post your jobs online. Some other job sites you might want to consider posting your jobs to are Monster, SimplyHired, JobInventory, and Juju.

Depending on your job opening, especially if it is a niche job, you may want to consider posting your job to a niche site. For instance, FlexJobs is a great place for posting flexible jobs.

Post Jobs to Social Media

Social Media

Social Media is a growing tool in the recruiting industry. Originally intended for sharing stories, photos, and videos, social media has become a popular place to find a job. If you are not using the network of followers you have created on social media to hire employees, you could be missing out on great candidates.

Here are some of the best social media platforms you should be using to post your job openings:

LinkedIn

While LinkedIn is first and foremost a social media platform, it does have a strong platform for job listings. LinkedIn, similar to Indeed, also serves as one of the largest sources of applicants. With a hire made every 10 seconds, you should not discount the value of LinkedIn.

Employers posting their job openings here will pay-per-click anytime a potential applicant clicks on their job listing. With an ATS like CareerPlug, however, you can have your jobs posted at no additional cost on LinkedIn. The process works similar to posting on Glassdoor. Your job listings will show up in job searches on LinkedIn and be visible on your company’s LinkedIn page.

Facebook

Facebook has recently started providing more tools to utilize its platform for recruiting. With the launch of Jobs on Facebook, you can now list your job openings on Facebook. You also always post your jobs on your personal feed. Similar to boosting a social media post, employers who post jobs on Facebook can boost their job openings.

Posting your jobs on Facebook is free. As stated earlier, you can also boost your job listings to reach a wider audience.

Twitter

Twitter does not have the same tools as LinkedIn and Facebook, however, it can still be used to promote your job openings. Any tweets you make with a link to your job opening will appear in search results and your follower’s feeds.

Twitter is free to post on. That means you can post as many full-time, part-time, seasonal, or other jobs you have open.

Other Social Media Platforms

Similar to job search engines and job boards, there are hundreds of other platforms that we did not cover. Some other great places to list your job openings are Instagram, Reddit, and more.

Create an Employee Referral Program

Using Local Sources

Utilizing your local network may be one of the best, if not the best sources to find candidates. Efforts in this category can range from local job ads to posting a sign in your store to creating an employee referral program.

Here are some of the best ways to tap into local candidates:

Employee Referrals

Creating an employee referral program to announce new openings to your employees consistently can help you find great candidates. By having your employees share your job openings in their network, you are opening your business up to more similar minded and similar skilled candidates.

This could be free, or you could add a referral bonus to really make your employees want to refer people from their network.

Use Universities and Colleges

Most universities and colleges host a job fair. This is a great opportunity to pitch your job openings to local talent. Most universities and colleges also host their own job site where students can search for jobs online. Make just you have listed your job on these sites to maximize job visibility.

How Much Does It Cost?

Many universities and colleges offer employers to create job listings for free or at little cost. Check with your local university or college to learn how you can post your job opening on their job portal.

Many of these best sites and places to post your job can be executed through an ATS. If you would like to learn how CareerPlug can save you time and money you can request a demo!
