Sometimes we get so comfortable within our jobs that we start to relax . . . let a few things slide, give ourselves a little leeway. Suddenly deadlines are being missed, employees are indifferent, and that comfort turns into a slippery slope of unproductivity and poor results. As a manager, you can make sure that your team is in tip top shape with these tips:
Peace.
Is the peace being kept? Are all of your teammates getting along? Make sure that all tension or issues that may have unearthed over time have been addressed and handled. Don’t let issues lower the stamina of your team. A clear and peaceful mind yields a calm and supportive environment that fosters teamwork and collaboration.
Productivity.
This is the ultimate measure for team fitness. How effective has your team been lately? Are quotas being met or exceeded when possible? Is everyone working to their highest potential, or at least making an effort? If not, you may find that it is time to step in and reboot your team’s motivation. Encourage them to take on a little more weight and to tackle some mini goals on their way to their bigger goals. Remember, you are apart of a team and you are all after the same goal.
Play.
All seriousness aside, everyone needs a break once in a while. Has your team been allowed time to work hard and play hard? The long days at the office can be draining, and rest is a necessarily part of being a productive producer. Have some fun. Have a happy hour, do a company lunch. Play some music. Above all- acknowledge all your team’s hard work. Giving praise will not only make employees feel better, but they will also be driven to work harder for you and the company.
Plan.
Plan for future success. The best way to shape up any workplace is to know where you are heading. Having a goal or plan makes obtaining the success within a team much more realistic. With everyone aware of expectations, as a manager you will be able to motivate your team with purpose.
